U THANT HOUSE IS SEEKING: Museum Facilitators/Guides/Hosts with a passion for sharing knowledge and creating memorable learning experiences for our visitors.
U Thant House is embarking on an exciting phase of further developing the museum as a place for learning, not only about U Thant but more importantly about the issues that were of greatest concern to U Thant: peace and tolerance, sustainable development and environmental protection. Our aim is for U Thant House to inspire people to find solutions to global challenges that are also relevant to Myanmar, and to inspire action in people’s daily lives, to contribute to shaping a better future. We are seeking to expand our team with additional facilitators/guides/hosts to help receive individual visitors, tour groups and school visits, and to help implement the activities of U Thant House. Our facilitators/guides/hosts are the public face of U Thant House. Their work is key for our visitors’ experience and they play an important part in fulfilling our mission. We are looking for candidates who have a way of making people feel welcome and who share our values and our enthusiasm for sharing knowledge. Our visitors come from all over the world and from all over Myanmar. We strive to offer all our visitors a special and memorable experience, and to be accessible to all regardless of cultural background, religious and ethnic belonging, and socio-economic status. Responsibilities include: -Serves as a knowledgeable and competent guide engaging visitors in the exhibition and as a host during special visits and tours. -Acts as a facilitator during educational activities for school visits, actively contributing to their learning experience. -Assists in preparing school visits including developing age-appropriate and engaging educational materials. -Assists with museum development, producing new content and continuously looking for ways to improve the exhibition and visitor experience. -Collects data and feedback from visitors. -Assists in organizing and hosting events.
-University degree or equivalent and a minimum two years of relevant working experience. More experience is a plus.
-Fluency in Burmese (native speaker). Working knowledge of English. Other languages are a plus. -Strong interest in facilitating visitors’ learning experience. Teaching or guiding experience is a merit.
---Must be comfortable leading and speaking in front of groups and have a talent for engaging people. -Interpersonal skills and a keen sense of working and delivering as a team.
-Must share a commitment to peace, sustainable development, environmental protection, human rights, the values of tolerance and respect for individual human dignity that were so important to U Thant. Mandatory training will be provided for successful candidates. We are seeking candidates who can commit for a minimum of one year, part-time or full-time depending on the successful candidates’ schedule and availability.
